Preamble

In these pages I will attempt to bring together everything that I have discovered about the Balfry community in over 30 years of searching.
Select broad subjects from the Tabs below and please post comments or additions to make this record as complete as possible. And do contact me if you have any observations to make.

  1. I found this website by chance when I typed in the name of my paternal grandfather Xavier Balfré, son of Alfred Balfrey, later Balfré. I have a good photograph of Ellen Philomena Creteau, who was the daughter of a French sugar plantation owner.

    1. Simon B. I would love to see a photo of great aunt Philly. My mother used to speak of her. Ironically I lived for 8 years in Trinidad, but did not know that was where she was from at the time. Please send a copy of the photo to my email address above, and I will add it to the Picture Gallery if you wish

  2. Thank you so much for all the work you and others have done. Absolutely fantastic! I'm going to pass this on to others in my family. Andrew Lloyd John Balfre (my brother), his four children and my two. Just an FYI, the photo entitled Family of Cecil Juan Balfry and Alice Sutton about 1924 is not quite correct. My father John Morday Balfre is on the top right and Donald Cecil is next to their father. Regards, Kim Balfre.

    1. Dear Kim, Thanks for posting. It is so encouraging to receive feedback, it shows that someone out there is reading this blog.
Can you confirm that the names of John and Donald should be transposed? The caption on the photo was supplied by Christopher Britton. I will contact him to let him know your amendment.

  3. Hi John, sorry I didn't realize you had replied. I can definitely confirm that in the group photo, my father John Morday Balfre is on the top far right. He was born in 1898 and in 1916 he joined the Royal Naval Flying Core as an aircraft mechanic. He was demobilized at the end of the WWI from the newly formed Royal Air Force. He spent time in France during the First WW, servicing aircraft. You can reach me at kimbalfre@gmail.com

  4. John, I'm hoping to come to England this year (2022) providing traveling is ok. I would like to visit Borden in Hampshire to see if I can find Balfry/Balfre graves and the old houses. If you have any information about this area, I would most appreciate it. Thanks Kim
